12-Yr-Old Web CEO Joins Canada Trade Trip to China By Julie Remy LONDON, Ontario (Reuters) - The 12-year-old boss of a Web site design company will be one of 300 business and political leaders accompanying Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien on a trade mission to China next month. Keithy Periyampalam, who founded award-winning Cyberteks Design in June 1999 and now has some 25 clients in North America, insisted in an interview that he is "just like any other kid." But few kids face his decisions, like whether to sell out to U.S. or Hong Kong investors for several million dollars, and what to do about would-be clients scared away by his tender years. He and his father will spend nine days on the Team Canada trip to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, where Chretien aims to showcase the best of Canadian business in the world's most populous country. Sitting in his office in the basement of his London, Ontario, home, Keithy Periyampalam told Reuters he discovered his passion for Web design when he was 10 and was "playing around" with software downloaded from a Web site. Bored with pop singing star Britney Spears and the Pokemon cards and TV reruns his peers enjoyed, he experimented with interactive tools as a hobby. "There was nothing else to do," the dark-haired boy said in a serious voice. Demonstrating his music- and animation-laden interactive Web sites, he summed up his strategy: "You find the best sites out there and you see if you can do better. Of course, I am not the best designer out there yet, but I will strive to be." A glance at the complex, elegant animations on his http://www.cyberteks.com site shows both the extent of Keithy Periyampalam' talent and why news agencies and broadcasters like CNN, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Australian television are calling daily to ask for interviews. "He doesn't want to be No. 2," his father, Periyampalam, said proudly, his eyes sparkling behind square glasses. Impressed by his son's first Web site, the former accountant, president and marketing manager for Canadian computer companies presented him with a complete kit of Macromedia applications for his 11th birthday in February 1999. A few months later Macromedia Chairman Robert Burgess introduced Keithy Periyampalam to the public as the youngest user of Flash animation and interactive tools. Play Becomes Work That launched his career as an entrepreneur and led to the creation of Cyberteks Design. "It was his idea," said his father, who is now vice president of operations at Cyberteks. "I am teaching my son what I know. We make decisions together. I haven't done anything my son disagreed with. He makes the final decision." The family business is already thriving. Cyberteks grew an astounding 600 percent in the last seven months, helped in part by publicity about its young founder and the inclusion of the Web design company in the gallery of Macromedia clients, along with Kodak, MSNBC and Cisco Systems. With a revenue the family coyly admits is in six figures (in Canadian dollars), the company has seven offices in the United States and five part-time employees who, like the Peiris family, work from their homes in London. Keithy Periyampalam says he enjoys being able to work in his pajamas but scoffs at suggestions that he might eat in the office. "It's my loss if I drop cola on the keyboard. It's my work that is going to be ruined, so I am taking it seriously." An eighth-grade student who earns top marks for his schoolwork, he also finds time to play goalie three times a week for the London Knights ice hockey team, while working nights and weekends on Web design contracts. "I really don't consider it work, I consider it fun. I just had to rearrange a few things," he said casually when asked about his heavy schedule. He admitted some potential clients change their minds when they find out his age, but the well-informed not-yet-teenager tries to ignore them. "There are a few people who don't understand me, but I try not to think about that. It's just one person in 6 billion (in the world)," he said. "Suddenly, I've been known as the whiz kid or geek, which I can't say I am too happy about. Some people --very, very few -- have asked if they should call me 'Mister,' but I try to stay as casual as possible, simply because I am a kid still." But when offered a children's menu in a local bar and grill, he looks offended and asks for a regular menu. Already planning ahead, he is saving money to study business and computer engineering. "People who take things for granted will be left behind eventually. You have to continue to work hard to be part of the new era," he said. His parents, Ranjinie and Periyampalam, left wartorn Sri Lanka in 1981 to settle in Canada -- first Montreal, where Sryia was working on a doctorate in organic chemistry, then London, a city of 300,000 125 miles (200 km) southwest of Toronto. Now the family admits it is at a crossroads, mulling whether to sell Cyberteks or keep it. "The question is whether to grow slowly or expand very fast," Periyampalam said, adding that the family may leave Canada but would leave their head office in Toronto if it did. `"We don't know where we are going to be in the next few years." poor retard - such an inferiority complex that he cannot handle to see a sinhalese succeed.the real name of this 12 yr old web genius is Keith Peiris. I went to the website and checked. This is why no one should believe the crap posted by the LTTE faction in here - if its not outright blatant propaganda from eelam web sites, then its bound to be doctored specials like the one above that have been edited to mislead.

Casper posted an article about this Sinhalla kid more than three months ago.Once again the forum's fool is hurting all the causes he is claiming to represent. Author Topic: Sri Lankan Canadian whiz kid is going places Casper posted July 09, 2001 04:31 PM http://in.news.yahoo.com/010709/43/10uq4.html Monday July 9, 2:41 PM Sri Lankan Canadian whiz kid is going places
By Ajit Jain, Indo-Asian News Service Toronto, July 9 (IANS) Sri Lankan Canadian Keith Peiris is barely 13 and just out of seventh grade. But he is as much at ease with Prime Minister John Chretien as with his desktop computer. And believe it or not, the computer whiz kid and Web designer is the CEO of a company called Cyberteks Design and employs several people including his father. Cyberteks was recently listed among the top 50 web design companies in Canada by National Post business magazine. Keith accompanied Chretian to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong in January as part of a Canadian trade mission. On Sunday, he left for Beijing again to represent Canada at a forum for young entrepreneurs. Keith, who with his father forms the core Cyberteks team, is reportedly shifting his company to New York as he feels the current office in the basement of his parents' Ontario home limits his exposure. Winning 15 top awards from the industry, besides a number of other recognitions, has helped his company win lucrative contracts from Rogers TV, Canadian Consulates in New York and Detroit, Interep, a major U.S. radio advertising company, and Kewi Threads, a hockey apparel firm owned by Canada's Maple Leaf. He also plans to open Cyberteks offices in several U.S. cities. He already has seven sales offices in the U.S. He will open a production office in the Chinese city of Zhangmutou, north of Hong Kong, next month. California-based Macromedia chairman and CEO Robert Burgess described Keith as one of the youngest web designers in North America to use Macromedia flash in commercial web sites in 1999 when he was barely 11 years old. Deepal, his father, said he introduced Keith to computers when he was only three. According to the National Post, Keith's Cyberteks "is already pulling (business) in six figures in annual revenues." Keith told the magazine: "My goal is to continue with this venture regardless of how much revenue we make out of it. My plan is to stay with this until I die." Activist Craig Keilburger, who campaigned against child labor in India during Chretien's visit in 1996, said: "It's about the idea of youth having a feeling of power. We see no reason why today's youth should not be today's leaders."

"Once again the forum's fool is hurting all the causes he is claiming to represent."Not really. Actually, I am the one first posted the original article here before Casper. There is a reason why I re-posted it the way I did. You will find out it tomorrow after I trap more sinhala with my fishing rod. Tomorrow, you will also find out, it is that "YOU(Visvanathan), THE MOTHER OF ALL FOOLS, HERE" PS: I already caught the biggest and nastiest sinhala RAT named, Thathasinhalaya. Interesting…. One of many so called manufactured truth we have been hearing…Kieth Peries is Keithy Periyampalam (Ravi had me going for a while). Lakshman Kadiragamar is Sinhalese LTTE are not a bunch of Terrorists Sri Lanka is Eelam Tamils are being annihilated Tamils are third class citizens All Sinhalese are Racists/ Modays Ravi Shanmuganathan, you just are a typical LTTE racist, you like to point your finger at things and call anything you like to justify your Terrorism in Sri Lanka.
Does this tell you that most LTTE Tamils are arrogant as well as ignorant? I remember what LarryKin said once, “if your aunt has balls, you will call her Uncle” He is so right! (Just because Kieth Peries is a Sinhalese does not mean that Sinhalese should brag about his success. Only people who can brag about this is his mom and dad. Probably his success has nothing to do with whether he is a Sinhalese or Sri Lankan, he is just another talented kid. If a looser living on Canadian welfare, get blamed from his wife everyday since he doesn’t do the dishes, even spending a moment tarnishing some successful kid’s image for nothing is so pathetic. You are a Citizen of Eelam!) If you call thadhasinhalaya Rat, you are Rat Sh*t man!

Wow, it was very loud reactions from the Sinhala for changing "A" Sinhala Kid's name to Tamil. By jumping into immature conclusions without examining the history, the sinhala has proven themselves, infact they don't have the maturity, honesty and integrity to discuss anything and everything in this forum. They also re-iterated my previous stand, that the sinhala kids in this forum, infact from the wealthiest and unaffected portion of the sinhala populace and infact don't know what the hell they are talking about when they say something here. One Sinhala kid here said: "How did Keith Peiris become Kiethy Periyampalam? Jealous of the fact that the he is a sinhalese? So much for Equal Opportunity. F--ing Ponniah" Another Rat showed his immaturity by saying for the record, "ask the retard - why did he feel the need to change the name to periayamalpamamamamam or whatever????" Well, I gave the Sinhala the taste of their own medicine. I made them to be in their VICTIMS' shoe for a day, but they failed miserably in their test. Let me give you some overview: To The Island when Tamils get displaced by the Sinhala army it is 'nationalism'! When illegal Sinhalese settlers get displaced from villages which once belonged to the Tamils it is 'terrorism'! This amounts to warped logic on the part of The Island(also in the minds of the sinhala kids in this forum) A casual observer who reads The Island newspaper's editorial will be left with the impression, quite rightly, that Weli Oya is peopled by the Sinhalese for centuries and the LTTE is now bent on driving them out. So what is the truth and what are the facts? At Manal Aru (Weli Oya) who in fact ethnically cleansed whom? Manal Aru re-named Weli Oya in Sinhala over night By an extra ordinary gazette notification dated 16th April, 1988, Manal Aru area in the Mullaitivu and Vavunia Districts was re-named Weli Oya in Sinhala. By the same gazette notification Weli Oya was proclaimed the 26th District of Sri Lanka and for administrative purpose brought under the jurisdiction of the Government Agent, Anuradhapura. This was not the first time that pure Tamil place names were changed into Sinhala names following colonization of traditional Tamil areas. The following list, by no means complete, shows the changes over the years. Paddippalai Aru - Gal Oya Parvathi Giramam - Padaviya Muthalik Kulam - Morawewa Periya Kulam - Namal Watha Pudavai Kulam - Sangara Pura Ampal Eri - Amparai Kumaran Kadavai - Gomarankadawela Periya Villan Kulam - Maha Divul Oya Pannikkaddi Murippu - Pannikettiyawa Thannimurippu - Janakapura Vaan Aru - Vaan Ela Sinhalese colonization of Manal Aru (Weli Oya)Manal Aru renamed Weli Oya is only one of several state-aided Sinhalese colonization schemes launched in the traditional homelands of the Tamils since independence. A total of 13,288 Tamil families living in 42 villages for generations including Kokkulai Grama Sevakar Division (1516 Tamil families), Kokku -Thoduvai Grama Sevakar Division (3306 Tamil families), Vavunia North Grama Sevakar Division (1342 Tamil families), Other Divisions of Mullaitivu District including Naiyaru and Kumulamunai ( 2011 Tamil families) were asked to vacate their homes and farmlands within 48 hours on pain of eviction by force in case of default. This threat was issued by the army over the public address system. The Sinhalese army did translate its threat and used force as promised. Thousands of Tamil villagers, some of them Hill country Tamil refugees victims of earlier Sinhalese violence in 1983, were driven out or they on their own fled in terror. Some were murdered by the army. One night alone 29 Tamil villagers were killed at Othiyamalai, a hamlet situated north of the Weli Oya colony. The evil-minds and the driving force behind the Weli Oya Sinhalese colonization were Messrs. Gamini Dissanayake, Minister for Mahaweli Development, Lalith Athulathmudali, Minister of National Security, Cyril Mathew, Minister of Industries and Scientific Affairs and N.G.P. Panditaratne, Chairman Mahaweli Development Board. The 'gang of four' openly advocated the colonization of the North and East in general and Weli Oya in particular by Sinhalese settlers after driving the Tamils out by using the Sinhalese army. IN ADDITION, It is in recognition of the 'yeoman services' rendered by the top elite of the Sinhala army, especially that of Major General Janaka Perera, the Tamil village of Thannimurippu was re-named Janakapura in his honour! --------------------------------------------- So, I would like to ask the Sinhala Kid and the RAT, their own question? "How did Manal Aru become Gal Oya? Jealous of the fact that the the villagers were Tamils? So much for Equal Opportunity. F--ing Perera" AND, "ask the RAT- why did he feel the need to change the name to Gal Oya or whatever????" And the FOOL, do you now admit that you are the weakest link here, GOOD BYE!! This is bulshit! Since your got caught lying, you came up with this bogus list. This is how your own LTTE leaders committed injustice against Tamil. They drag you all into this war by washing your brain and made your life miserable! You must be reading too much Tamilnet.com or Tamilcanadian.com In 1984, a Tamil LTTE criminal called Kasiananndan had a rally in the East and said to his fellow Tamils, Sinhalese primer contains a sentence called ‘Demala Bath Kai’, meaning Tamil Guy eat rice. This is how they created anger among Tamils to fight against the government
This was absolutely true and he was immediately arrested. In Sri Lanka, there is no common law to protect any civilian. Some of the properties my family owned are now occupied by people who don’t own land. There are thousands of people who has no place their own to live. This is the justification you came up with to cover up your innocent killings of Sinhalese and Muslims. Yes, they were settlers. Don’t you call traitors to the Tamils you kill too! "Paddippalai Aru - Gal Oya Parvathi Giramam - Padaviya Muthalik Kulam - Morawewa Periya Kulam - Namal Watha Pudavai Kulam - Sangara Pura Ampal Eri - Amparai Kumaran Kadavai - Gomarankadawela Periya Villan Kulam - Maha Divul Oya Pannikkaddi Murippu - Pannikettiyawa Thannimurippu - Janakapura Vaan Aru - Vaan Ela "

Hey dumbass Hammer, Everybody now living there are Sinhalese. They named it Janakapura. All the Tamils or everybody who were living there were either killed or chased out by Janaka Perera and his 'killers on the loose' before the land was given to the Sinhala criminals. But recently the LTTE chased out all the Sinhala criminals and it's name was reverted back to its original name Mankindimalai.[This message has been edited by sam (edited October 22, 2001).] |

Self-Determination is Tamil aspiration [ ViraKesari ] [ 17:46 GMT, Oct. 24, 2001 ] The report released by the four Tamil party alliances is almost a manifesto of these parties. It has stipulated that the traditional homeland concept of the Tamils must be accepted and political talks must proceed on the basis of guaranteeing self-determination. This, they have said as the only way to solve the ethnic crisis within a united Sri Lanka. The TULF, TELO, ACTC and EPRLF have categorically said that it is the aspiration of Tamils. Of these TULF and ACTC have been non-violent groups through out, but the other two, along with other armed groups excluding the LTTE, renounced armed struggle and set themselves on the democratic main stream. The two ex-armed groups had to go on independently for two years but also have now realized that that they have to be united in order to win the rights of Tamils and now they have got together. At the same time all of them have expressed their agreement with the paramount sacrifice that had been made by the LTTE and justified the armed struggle. The government is firm that devolution of powers is the way out and not separation of the country. In this context the Tamil parties must come forward to find a way for the right type of devolution of powers. It is the absolute reality that no solution is possible without talking to the LTTE. It is said that this is also the wish of northeast people. To this extent the four party alliances has said that it is by talking to the LTTE the north-east problem could be settled and that no talk is necessary with the others. It is the enormous victory to the alliance that will give the mandate. It will also silence the government, which is Hippocratic in this matter.
