I hear that malnutrition during the early years of Childhood does cause some Mental Retardness in adulthood, as can be seen in the Slum Dwellers of the 3rd World.Quite a few of the newly rich in the 3rd World exhibit this trait of "Mental Retardness" as well!!! |

Tamil Nadu - Chennai Nearly a billion live in slums
Staff Reporter CHENNAI: Residents of Kannagi Nagar participated in a handicrafts exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) on the occasion of World Habitat Day. Huge slum population CHS director Suresh Kuppuswamy said that as per a U.N.-Habitat report, in 2001, 924 million lived in slums. "Of this Asia accounts for 554 million slum dwellers," he said at the inauguration of a one-day seminar. The number is projected to go up to two billion in the next 30 years. ---------------

Chimp smokes cigarattes
Charlie, a chimp who lives at the Zoo, has picked up smoking. Apparently, idiotic visitors to the zoo toss him the cigs for a laff. From Reuters:
"Baby chimps pick up habits by mimicking adults and we think he started mimicking smokers at his enclosure which probably led to smokers throwing him cigarettes," "He even acts like a naughty schoolboy by hiding the cigarette when staff approach the area," Barnes said, adding that the zoo was determined to help him quit. ----
Hmm, I wonder who taught whom that ? |

I don't see the connection between Malnutrition and Swindling (in your case of $A300,000 for an Apartment in a high rise complex in Warrandyte, Melbourne, Australia).People who suffer from Malnutrition resort to LIES and FALSE RUMOURS about everything to further their cause, as in the case of the Mentally Retarded Raja's coming from the Slums. Do monkeys have a mind? By Our Staff Reporter

Anindya Sinha says he can identify, recognise and tell 400 monkeys
apart at the Bandipur Sanctuary in Karnataka where he is now researching
the bonnet macaque, a species unique to peninsular India. "While we have spent 2,000 years sharing the world with these monkeys,
we still don't know much about them," he said. The scientist at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore,
was here at the Chennai Mathematical Institute recently to discuss "How
monkeys see the world! The search for an animal mind." After spending the last 11 years studying these primates, Dr. Sinha
says they lead rich, complex lives and have a sense of social cognition. He explained that the monkeys live in troops of five to 75, and females
were the more dominant members. "Females live their lives together.
They compete and cooperate with each other," he said. Lice-picking, he said, is a bonding mechanism. These monkeys spend
nearly all their time interacting with others. And there is a hierarchy
within the monkeys. "They are called bonnet macaques, simply because of the crown of hair
on their head," he said answering a question on the origin of the name
of these monkeys. It might be possible that bonnet macaques have a mind, said Dr. Sinha.
He fleshed out his argument by pointing out that female monkeys were
able to evaluate the dominant status of other individuals relative to
their own positions in the hierarchy. Further, he said, individual
macaques appear to be aware of the social attractiveness of others. "But what
we do not know is how these images are stored in their brains," he
added. Usually, macaques in the wild give an alarm call only when they see a
leopard, said Dr. Sinha. But he cited instances of false alarms or
"deceptive acts" that these monkeys are capable of, which goes to prove that
they may have a mind, he added.
