Hi Guys,

I am back after long time. Hope to have nice discussions. My Helping Hand will always be there.

I guess I am going to open that Pandora's Box again.. Anyway we gotta as we need to..

Here is that question ->

In Current Sri Lankan Political Sceneario , what is the role played by India or what are the Expectations out of India from Various sides in SL (SL Govt, Non LTTE Tamils and moderate LTTE tamils (if there are any)).

Being an Indian Tamil and a keen Follower of SL Politics, I would like to hear Answers from Various Parties Keeping Current Situation in Perspective ..I Underline -> Current Situation and future Projections in perspective..

No Answers expected/encouraged from Anandan Arumugam, Bharath Sorta Guys.. No offence intended. But I've seen No Worthy Contents in their posting all through..

Expecting Useful Perspectives..

Cheers
Chezhia.

Chezhia,

nice to hear from familiar names.

For me it is not clear what is India's exact stance on our issue. Would you be able to spell what is India's official & unoffical stance ?

1. Does India want GOSL & LTTE to resolve it by negotiation.
2. How does India look at East after Karuna split away ? Do India wants a 3 party solution. (Cannot forget Muslim factor as well.)
3. Would India wants to apprehend Prabha for Rajiv assaisnation ? If yes how could they have earlier two satisifed.

Hi Negambo,

Nice to meet you.

Official & Unofficial Stance of India on SL Issue

They are almost Similar from my perspective.
It is - > United SL needs federal Structure. We always stand for Unity of Sri Lanka but,we beleive Sri Lanka needs a truly Democratic Federal Structure in which all the minorities including Tamils, muslims get representation.

Answers

1. We want to solve the issue through negotiation with all the parties (including Eastern tamils, muslims, Northern Tamils, etc..)and NOT ONLY with LTTE. By Accepting LTTE as Sole Representative and negotiating only with them is going to lead to farce. To be honest, we feel LTTE is PART of the PROBLEM. PART OF a PROBLEM cannot offer solutions on its own.

2. We don't support Karuna. (Here ,there is a Difference in official and unofficial stance.) Even though we overtly don't support Karuna, we sympathize with any force who wants to release Tamils from terror.

3. YES, we always want prabhakaran & Pottu amman for Rajiv's assasination. BUT, we do not pursue that goal vigorously for obviously not to complicate already burning Issue.

All in All... we want a United Sri Lanka giving fair and peaceful representation to Tamils .Our other Aim is of course Peace in Our Country (Especially T.N) We don't want another wave of Refugees.

I dont think Tamils are expecting any handouts from India.

Future projection is totally depended on how India looks at the security of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

I dont think it is in the best interest of India to continue playing the old fashioned game of politics.

The game of politics is on a death bed, globally. The game of politics is experiancing a very slow death, globally.

The game of politics is becoming extinct very slowly and what is in,is the rights of every individual citizens.

Within 200 years, humans wont be restricted to one geographical area alone.Any one can live, work and play or travel anywhere in the world with ease.

Within 1000 years,we will be communicatings with others through songs, instead of the present verbal communications

Those who adapt to the new reality will be winners and those who fail, will be the loosers.

Cechiezia is not alone......

Viewpoint: "I don't know," he says
Prime Minster says he is out of the loop. Does anyone gainsay that??

Apr 28, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says he knows nothing of the tsunami joint mechanism. This sent cartoonists scurrying for their ink. It was pure reflex action.

It is hard to comprehend why the President allowed herself to become entangled in this particular ball of wool and why she painted herself into such a corner.

Even if the international community did want a Joint Mechanism, it is unlikely that all of them would have demanded a Joint Mechanism solely with the LTTE. If the government came up with a counterproposal of a Pluralist Mechanism consisting of all parliamentarians representing the affected districts (or nominees of those parties) most members of the Aid Consortium would have supported it; with the backing of India and probably the United States it would have been possible to isolate the pro-Tiger hardliners such as Norway demanding a JM with the LTTE. Most importantly the JVP would have found it difficult – if not impossible - to oppose such a pluralist mechanism consisting solely of elected representative of the people of the affected areas. The Tigers would have rejected the idea but that would have made them seem like unreasonable extremists (since their tame proxy the TNA would have had a heavy presence in the structure). The government could have had its cake and eaten it too.

Inexplicably the President seems totally unwilling to explore any alternative; it is JM or bust. Why has she adopted this ‘boy who stood on the burning deck’ attitude towards this issue?

sounds she (president) have been given BAD advice.

cheers

It cannot be bad advice because she is the type who would never listen any advisor. And rely on her spontaneous instincts rather than a planned approach with consulation of advisors.

Chezia and Negambo,

I dont think CBK has any option.

The original JM deal is even much less than what the IND LANKA accord gave.

However, i agree that it gives the upper hand to the LTTE, but eastern tamils have better plans i heard.

LTTE doesnt represent eastern tamils, karuna and TMVP too should be given a stake in joint mechanism.

ANyway, let the LTTE have the JM, lets see , lets see

Jughead, yes. she don't have options to handle JVP.
Today I see this statment.

President Kumaratunga's Executive Powers is now with a few trade unions, claims SLMC
Munza Mushtaq in Colombo, May 9, 2005, 8.11 p.m.. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress yesterday charged that President Chandrika Kumaratunga has stopped enjoying the Executive Powers vested in her as the country's Executive President, since a few trade unions have apparently taken over those powers.
