Hello
My name is Steven Leece and I have been trying to track down my Grandmothers family down she was born in Sri Lanka in 1890. I would appreciate any information you may be able to offer either directly or by passing my request onto others.

Parents: Father James Gordon White
Mother Annie Elizabeth Drummond Gordon Lovell

Children: Daughters Muriel Christine Gordon White
Cara Annie Drummond Gordon White
Born, Kandy Sri Lanka,May,21,1890

Sons Preston Gordon White
Neville Gordon White

It would appear from the records that I have been able to view that although the families name was GORDON- WHITE, it may also have been presented as WHITE.

Cara Annie Drummond Gordon White travelled with her sister Muriel who married Robert Forsyth Smith in 07,July1916, staying in New Zealand for the rest of her life. Cara travelled to Canada and Married on January 1915 to my Grandfather George Leece in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.

James Gordon White father and two sons Preston and Neville served in some degree in the British Military Service of that particular period, in Sri Lanka, possibly the Ceylon Planters Rifles Corp.

James Gordon White was the lessee of Theydon Bois Estate, Nawalapitiya of which the agents were Alstons, Scott & Co. He was also a Justice of the Peace.

One of the sons was to have married a Sri Lankan women and remained living in Sri lanka, we believe this to have been Neville.

I realise that the information presented may appear somewhat scattered, especially pertaining to isolating these individuals, still any assistance offered will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You Sincerely Steven Leece

Your grandparents were very old generations. It is not possible to say that grandparents still live in Sri Lanka. I heard that When tea estates were nationalized, Remained British tea planters moved to Australia, but you said that one of your grandmother's brothers married Sri Lankan woman, it is possible that their generations still live in Sri Lanka. How ever,More possibility that they would move one of English speaking Countries such as Austrila, New Zealand or Canada(May be, they live at your next door).

Additionaly, you could check at Public Record office, any surname as white. I know that In London, at Public Record office, they Search their relatives who live in India , and Ceylon during British Emphire. They kept all infomations( That is beauty of English people(Excuse me, Not all English people, but Middle and upper Class English people).
If spend time and effort, you could find them)

Steven,

There is a birth certificate/marriage license issuing office in Colombo that might be able to help track the records you require. I am sorry I don't have their contact details at the moment. I suggest you try the Sri Lankan government websites for such a link. I heard most of the Sri Lankan government offices are now online.

Here are some I came across recently..
