A Budhist temple by the side of Sivan kovil ?
[ ViraKesari ] [ 16:06 GMT, Dec. 27, 2001 ]The present govt is trying its best to bring unity to the country and contributing to the religious functions of all religions. Yet some communal forces are sabotaging the good will. At the foot of the Adam's peak Nallathanni estate and those who proceed to the peak go through it. On the way is a Sivam Temple which is venerated and worshipped by the Hindus who climb the peak. It is extremely holy to the Hindus in the area and religious festivals had been going on for years, particularly in the month of December.
Now a few who do not belong to this area are attempting to build a Buddhist temple closer to this Hindu shrine. A team of 50 led by a Buddhist monk has gone to this area and cleared the premises. In fact they have no connection whatsoever with the estate. They claim that they have bought the property. It is calculated that this is the work of a defeated lot at the last gen elections. The suspicion is increasing to know that they had paid Rs. 1.2 million to purchase this property.
Hundreds of workers are employed in this estate and when a land is sold the estate management is obliged to inform the workers first. This obligation had been overlooked. Constructing a Buddhist temple by the side of the Hindu temple will not result in winning the good will of people and this act should be condemned vehemently.
