McLellan issues warning

OTTAWA -- Justice Minister Anne McLellan yesterday warned against tarnishing
reputations unfairly in the fight against terrorism.

McLellan, who has promised legislation to make it a criminal offence to raise
money for terrorist purposes, nevertheless cautioned that Ottawa must be careful
not to target the innocent.

Striking the right balance between law and order and civil liberties will be a
challenge, she said after a Liberal caucus meeting.

"We have already seen expressed in our country, on the part of legitimate charitable
organizations, the fear that they might be swept up in an overly broad definition (of
terrorist organizations).

"We have to make sure ... that we do not in any inappropriate and unfair way, sweep
up innocent organizations. We've all seen examples of this in the past."

Alliance MP Keith Martin rose in the Commons to ask whether the Federation of
Associations of Canadian Tamils would be added to any list of organizations
barred from fund-raising.

The group has been named by the U.S. State Department - as well as a Canadian
Senate committee - as a front group for the Tamil Tigers, who are waging an armed
struggle in Sri Lanka for a national homeland.

McLellan's reply in the House was noncommittal, noting that cabinet has the power
to freeze and seize funds of any group that can be shown to have terrorist links.

Tamil Eelam is a de facto state in Indian Ocean. It is located below the Tamil Nadu state of India and in the North East of Sri Lanka. The state of Tamil Eelam has been
established by the people living there under the right of self determination given by International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights , Article 1, to which Sri Lanka is asignatory.

2. Why did Tamils in Sri Lanka want Tamil Eelam ?

Sri Lanka, which was renamed in Sinhala in 1972, had been called as Ceylon by British
during colonial times. Before 1833, the Tamil people were under different administration. They had their own kingdoms, culture and language which are very different from those of Sinhalese until 1505. The first colonial invasion took place in 1505. British brought Tamils and Sinhalese under one administration in 1833 and called this new colony as Ceylon.

When the British left in 1948, the 20% Tamils were left with 80% Sinhalese within a unitary country where the decisions were taken by democratic parliament system.

Under this system, racially polarised Sinhalese and Tamils were ruled by the constant majority of Sinhalese against the democratic wishes of Tamils as Tamils were the constant minority.

Sri Lanka government and the Tamil people cannot be resolved by the use of force

After the departure of the British in 1948, an alien Sinhala people speaking a language different to that of the Tamils and claiming a separate and distinct heritage has persistently denied the rights and fundamental freedoms of the Tamil people. ..

4. Is Tamil Eelam a communist idea ?

No. Tamil Eelam is the home land of highly religious Hindu, Christian and Islamic Tamil
speaking people. Tamils of Tamil Eelam are from the ancient times, known for their
trade and commerce. Tamil Eelam will be a democratic country once it become independent.

Presently, the some Northern and Eastern part of Tamil Eelam is under the Tamil Eelam
administration. Although a war is going on, Tamil Eelam administration functions very
effectively to achieve self reliance and self sufficiency. There are forty eight essential
items were banned by Sri Lankan authorities to the de facto state of Tamil Eelam.

Some of them are now allowed by the new government with the expectation that the
people of Tamil Eelam would give up their right to chose their political status freely.

6. Is there religious freedom in Tamil Eelam ?

Not only religious freedom, but the people are encouraged to follow their own religion
by Tamil Eelam administration even under the severe war conditions and economic ban.
The Christian, mainly Catholic and Hindu religious leaders are always provided all the
support needed for their religious freedom. Islam, however, is not being practised
presently, as the Muslims have been asked to leave the Tamil Eelam territory until the
independence of Tamil Eelam. The Muslims supported the aggressive Sri Lankan Sinhala
and Muslim Military against the freedom of Tamil Eelam.

7. Can any one travel to Tamil Eelam ?

Yes. Like in any other countries, for Tamil Eelam also the immigration and emigration
laws are applicable at the borders. Since a war is going on for the independence,
several additional restrictions are imposed on travellers for national security reasons
and for the security of the life of travellers.

8. Who is LTTE ?

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is the armed rebellion organisation fighting for
the independence of Tamil Eelam. It is a unique organisation in the world in the
following aspects.

1. Every cadre wear a cyanide capsule around the neck and commit suicide to avoid divulging vital information.

2. LTTE is the only rebel organisation which has naval and air wings known as Sea Tigers and Air Tigers respectively.

3. All the cadre wear uniform.

ethnic cleansing of tamils began in the 1950,s when the first hurd of tamil refugees
hit the indian shores.

then the 1960's , 1970's , then the 1980's

during this period LTTE was not established
as a strong army, they were just baby tigers
with around 1000 cadres...

So how in the hell is it possible to ethnic cleanse sinhalese?.....

all the sinhalese in jaffna , few thousand of them fled jaffna i believe,cos they were told by the SLA government to get hell out,
its like foreign Arab students fleeing back to their homes as per USA.

Only sinhalese population was the army.

Self defense from being killed and abuse is

But I want to let you know the facts.
The SLA have been killing hundreds of Tamil civilians every month to finishup all the Tamils once and for all.

The Mahasangha have been behind all the anti-Tamil riots in the past.

We were on path to annihilation even before the LTTE started a war to stop this genocide. We were subject to systematic genocide from the day Ceylon became independent from Britain. So atleast if we fight we'll have a chance of winning thus surviving. The LTTE has come a long way and now has become almost equally powerful to the SL forces.

Tamil lands have been colonised by illegal Sinhala colonist after ethnically cleansing Tamils from their lands.

LTTE is the only hope for the Tamils to bring justice for the Tamils. That is why the LTTE is a mortal enemy for the Sinhalese. Because they are the only obstacle to the Sinhala ambition of having a 100% Sinhala-Buddhist country. That is why the Sinhalese are all out to destroy the LTTE, because then destroying the Tamils will not be problem. Sinhalaya is trying every possible trick to isolate the LTTE, including from the Tamils but in vain. We the Tamils will fight to the last man to break the shackles of Sinhala oppression and genocide.

Reported Deaths due to War in Sri Lanka: 100,000 since the war Started.

No Tamils were killed in Sri Lanka BEFORE the war started.

The claim that we were on the path to annihilation can’t be due to the war is to commercialize and justify LTTE’s activities . Therefore the annihilation Sam the terrorist talks about could be due to heart disease.

If State sponsored colonisation of Sinhalese into lands where Tamils were living exclusively and making the Tamils minority in their own land and then ethnically cleansing them is what your policy is, then we do not have any other choice but to fight back and stop this. That is what the LTTE is doing. You are deliberately mixing up the state sponsored colonisation to the freedom of movement of people. Tamil people in the south came to south by themselves bought property with their own money settled down there. This is similar to the Sinhalese people in Jaffna before July 83.
