About TEEDOR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEEDOR came into existence as an organisation to research, plan and develop the infra structure of Tamil Eelam. It was formed in the name of ROOT (Research Organisation Of Tamil Eelam) when established in 1985. Although it was started with a handful of members, it soon took off and expanded its activities into many areas of economic development, hence the present name Tamil Eelam Economic Development ORganisation.

Although the long-term objectives of TEEDOR is the creation and management of overall infra-structure of Tamil Eelam that will have sustainable growth, it is involved in assisting the war-affected people to rehabilitate themselves through application of available intermediate technologies and carrying out awareness campaigns on health, sanitation and nutrition. This has brought relief to people of Eelam in the face of most stringent economic and inhumane economic and medical embargo imposed by Sri Lankan army of occupation.

From the late-eighties, they researched and developed various local methods for oil extraction, production of soaps, jams, fuel economy cookers, paraffin-run converted motor engines, conversions to water-pumps to operate on bio-gas and paraffin. Sessions were held to educate people about improvements on local farming methods, introduction of better yielding crops, plantation in salty lands, fish farming, environmental care and awareness. The ordinary people are encouraged to involve themselves in the efforts to improve methods of better yields in farming and cottage industries by means of awards for best cultivators, successful implementation of new methods and new initiatives. These are activities that still play an important role of TEEDOR on the ground.

Live exhibitions are held at schools with the help of university students to encourage active learning. This is a tradition that has constantly activated new thoughts and encouragement to students and parents. Exhibitions held annually in schools form part of the educational system. With the hard working academics taking part in all levels of the organisation, TEEDOR works towards the goal of brighter economic prosperity of Tamil Eelam.

TEEDOR undertakes research to identify needs of people and technical areas for development and formulates and implements ideas by utilising available material and human resources.
