First, If you do not have deep knowledge of a subject, do not research, because it makes that completely waste time, misleading others. I could excuse that Peter Schalk does not know probably tamil, how can I excuse that if from Jaffna, Could not find difference between Nalavar and llavar. I had to do comments that the below article, A Short History of the words, by Peter Schalk. I have to tell Prof Peter Schalk , do not do again if do not know deeply language and their roots. Because It makes that misleading others. If from Jaffna, you know that Nalavar is caste of toddy drawers, not that llavar is caste of toddy drawers. Peter Schalk confused that between Nalavar and llavar. Of Course, Nalavars came originally from Kerala to Jaffna for Toddy drawers. you could not find a caste of Nalavar in Tamil Nadu. If deeply looked Caste system in Jaffna, there are not similar as in Tamil Nadu, but Easten Sri lanka Tamils are different of Social groups from Jaffna Tamils, They are more similar to Tamil Nadu Social groups. How ever, llam is called as whole of ceylon, you knew that if studied at secondary Sri Lanka, and llam means od land od diamonds, not gold or toddy [This message has been edited by Drwho1 (edited November 25, 2004).] | |
