The Director, Graduate Admissions, Department of Electrical Engg. Sub:" Application fee waiver/deferral & GRE/TOEFL scores". Dear Sir/Madam, I thank you for sending me the application form for the FALL '95 session in response to my preliminary application letter. After going through the application material , I found that my field of interest closely matches the research program currently underway at your university. I would sincerely like to join the M.S program at your department but as the monthly income of my parents is currently less than $200, & our family barely manages to make both the ends meet, I am finding it prohibitively expensive to apply to your esteemed university. Therefore , considering my financial constraints and consistent good academic record (Please see resume ), I earnestly request you to grant me the following two concessions: 1. A waiver of the application fee. 2. An acceptance of photostat copies of my scorec in GRE/TOEFL. If this is not feasible for some reason kindly arrange for a fee deferral and accept photostat copies of GRE & TOEFL scores till the time of admission. I truely regret the trouble I am causing to you but a little consideration on your part and an early reply would undoubtedly help me further my educational plans. Thanking you in anticipation, Yours sincerely, Lasantha Samarathunga. PROJECT under the guidance of Dr. D.K. Samarpala and (July'95 - May'96) I'm working on a program to generate a grid inside a semiconductor device. The grid consists of triangular elements. It implements Delaunay Triangulation i.e. the program maximises the minimum angle of each triangle of the grid. This grid generator is to be used as part of DESIRE, the device simulator being developed by U of Moratuwa,Sri Lanka. In the end, it is hoped to make the grid generator interactive; with an X-Windows interface. B.Sc. SEMINAR under the guidance of Dr. A.N.Chanrasena (Jul'94 -Dec'94) I did my Seminar on Molecular Electronic devices. I studied how such devices can be made. I studied their electrical and mechanical properties. Besides this, I studied the advantage devices made from bio-molecules can have over conventional devices. SUMMER JOB under the guidance of Dr P.R.Gamunu(C.Clarke Inst. of Fundamental Research) (May'94 - Jul'94 & May'95 - Jul'95) I worked on modelling of Opto-electronic devices using SPICE. I also studied circuits using the devices that were modeled. These circuits were then simulated also using spice. _______________________________________________________________________ HARDWARE PROJECTS I am I am designing a high impedance voltmeter and microammeter card to be included in a laboratory power supply and measurement module. _________________________________________________________________________ SOFTWARE EXPOSURE :- I am conversant with C, Pascal, FORTRAN and BASIC. I have worked on UNIX, DOS, Windows, OSF/1 and X-Windows based systems. I have hands on experience with MATLAB, SPICE, ORCAD.I have extensive experience working with Windows and Windows based software. _________________________________________________________________________ COURSE STRUCTURE :- COURSE NAME GRADE MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS: -Calculus and analytic geometry A- -Linear algebra, differential equations B+ -Sequences and series A- -Complex analysis B+ -Electricity and magnetism B+ -Modern physics A- DEVICES AND FIELDS: -Electronic devices A+ -Electromagnetic fields A- -Electromagnetic waves B+ -IC design and technology ongoing CIRCUITS AND ELECTRONICS: -Basic electric circuits B+ -Network theory A+ -Digital circuits A+ -Analog circuits B+ -Electronic insturmentation A+ -Microprocessors A+ POWER AND MACHINES: -Principles of electric machines A+ -Induction, synchronous and D.C. machines A+ LABORATORIES: -Electronic devices A+ -Basic electric circuits A+ -Analog circuits A+ -Digital circuits A+ -Electronic insturmentation A+ -Microprocessors A+ Please note that this is not a complete list of courses ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -----------------------X---------------------------X-------------------------
