MORE SECURITY (99 Aug 04)
The government has decided to upgrade the security given to the TULF leaders following the assassination of Dr. Neelan Thiruchelvam by a suicide bomber on Thursday the 29th in Kolomba. Dr. Thiruchelvam the TULF national list member of parliament and director of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies was killed while he was on his way to work.
The TULF leaders will now be given security by the presidential security division instead of the ministerial security division. However it should be noted that the TULF has so far not condemned the LTTE for any of the murders that it has committed. Neither the TULF has asked the government to take steps to defeat the LTTE militarily.
It is clear that the TULF needs the LTTE to win a federal state and then Eelam. Without the LTTE the TULF will have no koti billa to show to the others and pretend that they are moderates who employ non-violent methods only to win more powers to the provincial council of the north and eastern provinces.
