INDO-LANKA TRADE AGREEMENT (99 Mar 03)
The other Indo- Lanka Agreement has already run into problems. The so-called negative lists were to be finalised before the first of March. But it has not been done so due to a number of disagreements.
For example India has included Tea and Rubber in its negative list meaning that a duty will be imposed on these items imported to India from Sri Lanka.Sri Lanka wants to sell both these items duty free to India.
As we have said this agreement , which was signed even before the negative lists were finalised is disadvantages to Sri Lanka and the parliament should not approve it even though the President and her advisers have tried to sell it to the people.
