SATHYAKKRIYA AT MAHANUWARA (99 Jan 27)
On Monday the twenty fifth more than two hundred Bhikkus and about thousand lay people performed a Sathyakkriya in front of the Dalada Maligawa in Mahanuwara. It was on the twenty fifth of January, 1998 that the LTTE terrorists attacked the Maligawa. As a result of the attack the entrance to the Maligawa and some wall paintings were damaged.
All the shops in Mahanuwara were closed on Monday and the Bhikkus and the others arrived at the Maligawa in a procession along the Dalada Vidiya. The procession commenced at the Keppetipola Vaisaka Society premises near the Mahanuwara railway station.
After the Sathyakkriya there were Anusasanas representing the three Nikayas. A large gathering in the city of Mahanuwara watched the procession and the Sathyakkriya.
