First Tourism Promotion Digital App Launched in Sweden

The Sri Lanka Embassy, Stockholm with the support of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) took the initiative to develop the first Digital App for promoting Sri Lanka tourism abroad. The proto type of the App was launched at a tourism promotion event in the Embassy recently. This Digital App has been developed in a user friendly manner for travelers to have access to information and facilities relevant to Sri Lanka tourism.

The App includes relevant information on Sri Lanka tourism including visa application process, travel & accommodation options, major tourist attractions and sight-seeing via virtual reality technology. This App is operated on a digital platform linked to websites, Facebook, Instagram and Global Positioning System (GPS). The Tourists can use it in offline mode. If tourists face emergency situations, they can send out SOS messages through the Global Position Tracking System available in the App.

In his speech at the event, Ambassador Sudantha Ganegama Arachchi explained the positive impact of the App on promoting Sri Lanka tourism, especially in the present context where digital applications are popular and widely used for accessing information and obtaining services. Mr. Harsha Vithanaarachchi, Minister of the Embassy presented features of the App to the eleven (11) Sri Lanka Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and Swedish tour operators attending the event. Ms. Yasoji Gunawardana, Second Secretary also made a presentation on new travel options available in Sri Lanka.

The digital app was developed by Sri Lankan software company Rebirth Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. The final version of the App will be available in Play Store and App Store in the 2nd week of April 2019.
