Amid arguments and counter arguments between the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and its dissidents that the legacy of JVP founder leader Rohana Wijeweera has not been safeguarded, the party will launch a book written by Mr. Wijeweera during his jail term in 1971 and 1972 highlighting the dangers of factionalism. JVP front-liner Vijitha Herath said the party understood that it was a timely need to launch this book at a time when factionalists were causing divisions in the party.

Mr. Herath said Mr. Wijeweera had based the book on factionalism and realism.

Later, JVP stalwart Upatissa Gamanayake had taken steps to print this book using a Roneo machine. Two JVP activists -- Wijeratne and Julian had printed the book under the supervision of Mr. Gamanayake and sent a copy concealed inside a food parcel to Mr. Wijeweera in jail.

Mr. Herath said the party would launch the book officially on November 13, 2011 to mark the 22nd death anniversary of Mr. Wijeweera.

"In this book, comrade Wijeweera has highlighted how factionalism affected communist movements in the world. In the book, he has noted how a police informant even became a central committee member of the communist party of Russia at that time. This informant had also been in charge of the publication division of the party," Mr. Herath said.

Meanwhile, JVP dissidents have been critical of the party that the legacy left behind by Mr. Wijeweera had been forgotten today. They are also trying to commemorate Mr. Wijeweera's death at a ceremony to be held in Colombo.
