Deepika Priyadharshani Peiris who won the coveted international Gusi award for peace at the award presentation held in Manila Philippines returned yesterday morning to the Island and was received at the Katunayake airport by versatile artistes Rohana Weerasinghe, Pradeepa Dharmadasa and several personalities of the musical field.

This international function organised by the Gusi Peace Foundation honours those who while been engaged in fields of Political, Medical, Entertainment, Children’s rights, Social justice, Humanitarian Law and Social Welfare; dedicate themselves to serving nations all over the world.

The award ceremony was held in Manila on November 28, 2012.

Deepika won this award for her rendering of the song “Saroja” which addressed with much emotion the message of peace to the hearts of those who faced much anguish in the face of war. Her penetrating voice engulfed the entire audience present at this occasion, earning her many accolades.
