Deputy Minister for Resettlement Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman expressed confidence that his sister Ruthramalar Gnanabaskaran who was contesting as a United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidate for the Eastern Provincial Council would be appointed as the Chief Minister of the Province as President Mahinda Rajapaksa had promised to give the post to the person with the highest preferential votes.

Mr. Muralitharan told the Daily Mirror yesterday that his sister who was contesting from the Batticaloa District would definitely get the highest preferential votes at the forthcoming election.

“I want the most suitable and qualified person as the Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council.” The Deputy Minister who was campaigning for his sister in this election said his sister was a capable person for the Chief Ministerial Post and a far better candidate than the former Chief Minister.
