Child-friendly education manual launched

The Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardane launched the Child Friendly Education Manual in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) earlier this month.

The new guidance manual contains comprehensive information to help educationists provide a conducive and interactive teaching and learning environment necessary for all children to develop The booklet based on the universal declaration of child rights has adopted six dimensions of the child’s friendly schools concept to ensure that schools meet the rights of all children.

Speaking at the launch event, UNICEF Representative, Reza Hossaini said that an increased focus on child friendly education will significantly improve the quality of learning for all children. “The new guidance manual contains comprehensive information to help educationists provide a conducive and interactive teaching and learning environment necessary for all children to develop,” he said.

Education Minister, Bandula Gunawardane meanwhile said that it was the Government’s vision to create a child friendly schools system that provides a happy learning environment for children in all primary schools in the country. “Because these children will be able to eagerly participate in the learning process to achieve their goals,” he said.

The manual which is in both Sinhala and Tamil provides guidance on key aspects that need to be improved in order to improve the quality of education in all primary schools in the country.
