Amnesty only given to LTTE leaders: Mano
June 16, 2012
The Democratic People’s Front led by Mano Ganeshan yesterday urged the government to give a general pardon to all the LTTE suspects or to rehabilitate them instead of attempting to try them before three separate courts.

Issuing a statement, Mr. Ganeshan said that the government appears to be maintaining a policy of selective justice. He said, “It has pardoned Vinayakamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, K. Pathmanathanaka (KP) and Daya Master, who were all LTTE leaders. On the other hand he said that the government was holding several LTTE cadres who ironically obeyed the orders of these very same persons who are currently government ministers and VIPs.

“The government pardoned former LTTE leaders and gave them high ranking posts in the government due to political reasons. Hence the government was also keeping the remaining LTTE cadres captive also for political reasons. Therefore they are absolutely political prisoners,” he said. “We demand total amnesty for these prisoners, who have been held for along period of time, some over ten years. We demand that they be accommodated in the rehabilitation programmes that are being conducted by the government, he said.
