UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will today lead a delegation of party seniors to Jaffna where he is expected to meet TNA MPS in the district to discuss various matters including getting the TNA to participate in the proposed joint May Day rally in Jaffna. UNP sources said General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, and a few MPS including Ravi Karunanayake and Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene would accompany Mr. Wickremesinghe on the tour.

The TNA has been participating in the joint opposition “Vipakshaye Udgoshana’ protest organized by several opposition parties in the recent past.

The UNP team is also expected to meet the civil society and religious leaders in Jaffna during the visit. They are also expected to participate in the party’s campaign for the election of Maritimepattu and Puthukkudiyiruppu Pradeshiya Sabhas. A TNA MP from Jaffna told the Daily Mirror that they were aware of the planned visit of the opposition leader but was uncertain about a meeting. However the MP did not rule out such a meeting.

Meanwhile, Democratic People’s Front (DPF) leader Mano Ganesan said the TNA would work with the joint opposition only if the DPF participated in it. However he said his party would not object to any private discussions between the UNP and the TNA.
