The Leader of the Tamil National Alliance R. Sambandan expressed gratitude to the army for constructing houses for the displaced people. During his visit to the Sampur Special Economic Zone, which had been a high security zone during the military conflict, he inspected the houses in the Sidanaveli area now being constructed by the military personnel for the displaced people.

The soldiers of the 22 brigade were attending to the construction work of the housing complex comprising 56 houses on the instructions of the Security Forces Commander of the Eastern Province Maj. Gen. Lal Perera. The parliamentarian later visited the proposed site for the thermal power plant that would be constructed by an Indian company. He visited several refugee camps and looked into the needs of the displaced people.

Former TNA parliamentarian K. Thurairaja-sinham accompanied the TNA leader. It was for the first time after the release of Sampur from the LTTE that a TNA leader visited the area.
