The parties that supported Gen. Sarath Fonseka at the Presidential Election are now busily gathering information from various sources to petition the Supreme Court regarding the election results which, they say, have been distorted.

JVP MP Vijitha Herath told Daily Mirror yesterday that lawyers representing both his party and the UNP would collaborate in this exercise.

An election petition has to be filed within 21 days of the conclusion of the election.

“We are busy collecting information regarding election frauds and malpractices that happened right from the beginning. We have to find credible evidence,” he said.

Asked whether the JVP would forge an electoral alliance with other parties, Mr. Herath said the party had not arrived at a decision yet.

“We are fully occupied with work related to the election petition. We have to deal with it first,” he said.
