Muzammil comes and goes

A dramatic turn of events was witnessed yesterday at Common Opposition candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka’s office with Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) MP Mohamed Muzammil who came to the office turning back alleging that he was offered money.

Mr. Muzammil came to the office together with Former Deputy Minister M. M. Mustapha and Democratic Unity Alliance Leader Nazeer Ahamed.

The journalists who were gathered at the office saw Mr. Muzammil going upstairs and coming down a little later alleging that he was offered money.

“I cannot be bought for money,” he told journalists and hurried out much to the amazement of everyone.

Mr. Mustapha later told a media conference that he came in Mr. Muzamil’ car and he got a call from someone on the way. “However he did not tell me anything till we got down from the car,” he said.

Mr. Muzammil had told him while goimg up the staircase that he got a call from his house saying that his family members were being threatened by the police according to Mr. Mustapha. Mr. Mustapha explained that they gave the information to UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake who was present at that time.

Mr. Karunanayake has then had suggested they go home after the press conference. Mr. Mustaffa said he did not agree to the request and decided to leave the place.

Mr Mustapha charged that Mr. Muzammil did not meet General Fonseka and everything happened while they were waiting for him.. He said there was no money transaction involved.
