President Rajapaksa pays homage to the Temple of Tooth

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was in Kandy this morning on 6th November and paid homage to the most sacred Temple of Tooth Relic in Kandy during his visit to hill country.

Last evening (5th November) the President visited the chief incumbents of Most Venerable Agga Maha Panditha Udugama Sri Buddha Rakkitha Nayaka thero of the Asgiriya Chapter and the most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Nayaka thero of the Malwattha Chapter and engaged in several religious activities there.

President has briefed the Maha Nayaka Theros of the measures taken by the government recently including the enhancement of Buddhist religious relations with several institutions in countries he visited recently and discussed the political issues and security situation of the country with them. President Rajapaksa frequently visits the two prelates and they have appreciated the work carried out by the President according to the information received. Recently he was awarded a special title “Vishva Keerthi Sri Thri Sinhaladishvara” by the prelates of the Malwattha and Asgiriya Chapters, the highest respected award presented to a citizen in the country at Magul Maduwa, Kandy.

President also engaged in several religious activities at the Sri Dalada Maligawa this morning. Ven.Tibbatuwawe Sri Medankara Thero,Ministers Athauda Senevirathne,Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake,Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara also participated the religious observances at the Maligawa.

After paying homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha this morning, the President visited Galaha to join the opening ceremony of the newly built Bhikku Hospital for Maha Sanga.
