JVP vows to sacrifice people to safeguard country

Aug 19 (IL) The JVP yesterday maintained a tough line on the LTTE's ISGA proposals and warned it would mobilise the people to sacrifice their lives for the motherland if the government went ahead with the proposals which in reality would pave the way for a separate state, the Daily Mirror reported today.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa delivering a widely publicised lecture on the real enemies of peace, said the ISGA would be more powerful than the executive presidency and if it were granted the JVP would have no option but to put the country before the government.

Speaking at the Maharagama Youth Centre, Mr. Weerawansa challenged statements made by Peace Secretariat Chief Jayantha Dhanapala that the government was making its own proposals for an interim administration in the North-East. He said if such proposals were really formulated by the government, then the JVP, which is a key partner, would have known about them
