Maha Nayake fears peace process may break down

Jan 4 (IL) A top Buddhist prelate yesterday expressed fears that the peace process might suffer if the President and the Prime Minister did not come together soon, in a national consensus.

The Venerable Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi Maha Nayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter urged the two leaders to reach a compromise so that the peace process and development work could be carried forward.

He said some elements in both parties apparently did not want the UNF and the PA to work together and those elements were misleading the leaders.

The Mahanayake made these comments when the Central Province Chief Minister Wasantha Aluvihare visited him at the Malwatte Vihara.
