No sabotage, says CEB

Nov 28 (IL) The Ceylon Electricity Board said yesterday that the islandwide two-hour power interruption in the morning was caused by a mechanical fault. It occurred at 5.30 a.m. and power was restored by 8 a.m.

The CEB ruled out sabotage in the power plants or in any complex.

The power interruption also temporarily disrupted water supply to the Greater Colombo area, as the Ambatale pumping station cannot operate without electricity.

CEB sources said the power interruption was due to a malfunction in the Kelanitissa AES power plant. Investigations are underway by a special CEB team to ascertain the cause of the interruption.
