Local Chambers on German Chamber system study tour |
Oct 4 (InfoLanka) The Chamber Development Project (CDP), a partnership between the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and Germany's Handwerkskammer (HwK) Koblenz, in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs are organising a study tour on the German chamber system from October 5 to 11, visiting German chambers, sector organisations and apex bodies as well as government institutions in three different German states.
The Sri Lankan delegation will consist of Nihal Abeysekera - President of FCCISL, Nawaz Rajabdeen - Senior Vice president of FCCISL, Samantha Abeywickrama - Secretary General of FCCISL, Malcolm Atton - Deputy Secretary General of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, A Kandappah - Honorary Secretary of The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, R D S Kumararatne - Deputy Director of Commerce of the Ministry of Commerce & Consumer Affairs, A K Ratnarajah - Senior Vice President of The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries, and Rasa Weerasingham - Executive Director of National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka.
The FCCISL said that the basic purpose of the tour is to provide extensive information on the workings of chambers and other business organisations in a framework of compulsory membership in chambers, to provide an input into the current discussion on this topic in Sri Lanka. Representing all companies by law, German chambers are a strong voice for the business community, while at the same time conducting several tasks assigned to them by the Government as well as offering a large number of services to their members.
The Chamber Development Project of FCCISL and HwK Koblenz is financed by the German Government through the Foundation for Economic Development and Vocational Training (SEQUA), Bonn Germany.
