CEB strikes continue

Apr 9 (InfoLanka) Some 5000 workers of the Ceylon Electricity Board are planning to stage a one-day token strike tomorrow while other unions are getting set for strikes after the New Year in support of demands relating to salary anomalies and the proposed restructuring.

A CEB official said they hoped there would be no disruption in power supplies tomorrow as engineers would not be taking part in the strike by workers who handled day to day functions.

Meanwhile about 100 members of the electrical, mechanical and civil superintendents union reportedly stormed the CEB chairman's office demanding immediate action on salary revision and related matters. The union members reportedly angry but not violent also demanded that no disciplinary action be taken against those who participated in a month long strike recently.

They left the office peacefully after chairman M. Zubair assured he would look into their grievances.
