President participates in religious observances of Kotte Randoli Perahera

The final Randoli Perahera of the Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya took to the streets Saturday night on September 8. The historic Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Sri Dalada Maha Perahera and pageant of the Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya which began on August 27 will conclude with the water cutting ceremony at Diyawanna lake followed by the Deva Dana on September 9.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has participated in religious observances at the Kotte Raja Maha Vihare prior to the final Randoli perahera. The President visited the Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya to participated in religious observances and inspected the preliminary measures with regard to the final Esala Perahera. Thereafter he called on the Chief Incumbent of the temple Venerable Aluthnuwara Anuruddha Thera. Venerable Thero invoked blessings on the President. The final Esala Perahera of the temple paraded the streets on Saturday. As usual large number of people was present to watch the Kotte Perahera which consisted of a number of elephants, Kandian, Sabaragamuwa and Ruhunu dancers, drummers and many cultural events.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dullas Alahapperuma, members of the dayaka sabhawa and large number of devotees participated in the occasion. However none of government's local politicians and members of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council were not present.
