No bar for me to address political meetings – Gota
Mar 22, 2010
There is no prohibition from anybody for him to address political meetings says Secretary of the Defense Ministry Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

Speaking to ‘Divayina’ newspaper Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse has said, “My addressing political meetings is an issue to some people. The people should be told about how terrorism in the North was destroyed and the situation of the country. There is nothing wrong in it. Anybody can say anything. Some may be hurt when I address meetings. There is no bar for me to address meetings.”

Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse as the Defense Secretary is a state administrative officer. According to our knowledge engaging in politics by administrative officers is prohibited. However, we are aware that Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse’s elder brother is the Executive President of this country and when he addresses meetings of the UPFA, the political party of his brother, there would not be anyone to issue prohibition orders to him.

However, we have one question. How does the same law in the country affect two people in two different ways? We would like Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse, the sibling of the Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, to make us aware of this, please.
