"I have no time to waste on answering questions posed by politicians. I have an agenda and target even in politics like in Cricket. I have already attended 30 meetings in the Matara District only yesterday (March 1)."

This was the reply given by UPFA candidate for the April 8 Parliamentary Elections, Sanath Jayasuriya, the Sri Lanka cricketer, when ‘The Island’ sought his comment on a statement made by UNF leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, that Jayasuriya will be unable to devote time for the ordinary people because of his involvement with cricket.

Wickremesinghe, who is the Leader of the UNP as well as Opposition Leader, had said that Jayasuriya will be involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament from March 12 to April 25, and will not be even in Sri Lanka for the April 8 Parliamentary Election. He said: One cannot play cricket and also serve the people at the same time. What politics for Jayasuriya, although he is a popular cricketer.
