Why doesn’t Dullas contest?
Feb 28, 2010
Speaking to Lankapuvath national list MP, Dullas Alahapperuma gave his reasons for entering Parliament through the national list and not contesting an Electorate, quite candidly and convincingly.

He had taken this decision as far back as 2005 and expressed clearly that he would stand by it till an amendment is made to the nature of electing candidates under the present Election System.

Popular Minister Alahapperuma further clarified that the present method of contesting under the preferential vote system weighs heavily on the contestant in terms of time and money, It is very energy consuming and expensive. Minister humbly added that he cannot afford to bear such a high cost.

He would certainly contest any constituency be it in North or South when an amendment is made to the present system of election.
