2 Charges to be framed against General under penal code & Exchange Control Act

The government has announced that charges will be framed against General Sarath Fonseka in civil courts under the Sri Lankan Penal Code and Exchange Control Act in two weeks' time.

The Government said charges will be filed against General Sarath Fonseka within the next two weeks under the Sri Lankan Penal code where he will be accused of fraud, condoning fraud, plotting against the government, creating unrest within the army and keeping army deserters under his protection, Minister of Export Development and International Trade Prof. G.L. Peiris said at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department today (25).

In addition, charges will also be made under the Exchange Control Act for violating and condoning the violation of foreign exchange laws.

Government Spokesperson Professor G.L. Peiris made this comment at a media briefing held in Colombo today(Feb 25).

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Alliance leader General Fonseka according to the media had signed his nomination papers while under detention yesterday to contest the General Election from the Colombo District.
