Mr. Lokubandara obtained membership of the party from president Mahinda Rajapaksa at a function in Bandarawela this morning (Feb. 20).

His son Uditha Lokubandara was recently appointed SLFP organizer for Haputale electorate and has been given nominations to contest the upcoming general election from Badulla district on the UPFA ticket.

Mr. Lokubandara, 69, is an arts graduate and first entered parliament in 1977 on the UNP ticket. He is also a lawyer and an expert on Sinhala language.
