Jackson, Geetha, Malani for General Elections

Several popular film actors and actresses are slated to contest the upcoming general elections according to informed sources.

Among the artistes who are expected to contest the general election are Jackson Anthony, Geetha Kumarasinghe and Malani Fonseka amidst speculation that popular film director Somaratne Dissanayake would be included in the UPFA national list.

Jackson Anthony who is expected to contest on the UPFA ticket from the Gampaha district did not rule out the possibility but told the Daily Mirror that he would do things differently. “Everyone will be able to see what I am going to do in the future as I have a certain ambition in life,” he said. However he said no one should associate him with other artistes who come into politics after being in the field of arts.

Popular actress Geetha Kumarasinghe said she had already taken up politics as she campaigned for President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the recent presidential election. She said she would soon let the people know about her other plans regarding politics.

Award winning actress Malani Fonseka who also expressed the same sentiments said she would let the people know of her decision at the right time.

Actor Budhadasa Withanachchi is also expected to contest the general election from the Kegalle district as a nominee from the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna.

Meanwhile actor Ranjan Ramanayake is also gearing up to contest the upcoming election either from the Gampaha or Ratnapura District from the UNP. He said he was willing to contest from wherever the party wants him to do so. “ I will contest even from Kilinochchi if the party decides so,” he said.
