Dreams in Sinhala

Sep 1 (NS) Perhaps it’s the allure of hearing a foreigner, a Caucasian at that, speaking in our own tongue, albeit falteringly. The Sinhala profanity coming from this staggering, sarong-clad sudda in the short video Bar Wahala is quite hilarious. His adaptation Sudda Dance, which involves him attempting to dance like a drunken Sri Lankan, did the Facebook rounds as soon as it was uploaded. His heavy accent coupled with, at times comic presentation no doubt strikes a chord, more..

What’s in store for the exile?

Sep 1 (DN) The political fallout from the resignations of ministers Ravi Karunanayake and Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe are still being felt within govt, the latter more than the former, even as the Joint Opposition hands over yet another motion of no-confidence, this time against Minister Rajitha Senaratne. Karunanayake’s resignation, in a sense, was straight forward enough. Following evidence led at the Commission of Inquiry into the sale of CB Treasury bonds, it emerged that more..

Editorial:  President’s dilemma

Sep 1 (Island) President Maithripala Sirisena has told media heads and editors at a recent meeting in Colombo that he will complete his full term come hell or high water. He may be able to retain the presidency, but what guarantee is there that there won’t be any change in the composition of Parliament. Nothing is so certain as the unexpected in politics. What befell the Kumaratunga govt in 2001 is a case in point. President Kumaratunga lost her parliamentary majority due to crossovers more..

Low politics retard Sri Lanka

Sep 1 (Island) Main reason why SL has on the whole regressed and has got stuck in a geopolitical mud hole as it were while other countries in the region have progressed and sprinted ahead is because of the political, economic, nationalist, religious, moral, ideological and social blind spots encrusted in the collective political leadership of political parties that governed this country.
