Most South Asian Countries have the Caste System, which comes from Hinduism.

But, the Caste system among Muslims, Budhists, and Christians is not as OPRESSIVE as it is among Hindu's, as these Religions preach equality.

So, the Caste system amongst the Muslims, Budhists, and Christians is more Cultural and not religious as in Hinduism.

There are no PARIAHS amongst Muslims, Budhist, and Christians, but amongst the Tamils there are Plenty.

In fact, the word PARIAH originated in the Tamil language.

By the way, Pakistan does not have the CASTE SYSTEM, but like the West, they have CLASS SYSTEM, where you get the Haves, and Have Nots (ie. wealth, education, beauty, etc).

Not sure of Bangladesh though, which is also a Muslim country.

There is no Caste System amongst the Tibetans living in India.

Well, Kandy Singhalese practiced caste system, it was noting to do buddishm. They used as they did not marry other caste system people, I do not know now. Earlier times, high cast kandian people did not allow their daughters to study high school and Universities because of they thought that they will loose their culture identy.
Any way, Caste system is structure of social communities, For example , Indian Subcontient never had slavery due to that they had already caste system for communities except that If king capatured other country  enemies(Including other country(region) king) , and  he used as slaves.
Any way,  English Class system is similar to caste system, If born in a class system,  his generation  is always that class system even they had wealth or not because they carried their class system surname.
I do not support caste system, but nowdays Lower caste people tried to force other people to clean their ass. That's disgusting for me. I used to be support socialist concepts, but now I think that that's bullshit because somebody want to clean public toilet, Who do that? any way, I do support that they should get enough money for feeding their family

FROM THE WORLD FACT BOOK 2000

The Sinhalese arrived in Sri Lanka late in the 6th century B.C., probably from northern India. Buddhism was introduced beginning in about the mid-third century B.C., and a great civilization developed at the cities of Anuradhapura (kingdom from circa 200 B.C. to circa A.D. 1000) and Polonnaruwa (from about 1070 to 1200). In the 14th century, a south Indian dynasty seized power in the north and established a Tamil kingdom. Occupied by the Portuguese in the 16th century and by the Dutch in the 17th century, the island was ceded to the British in 1796, became a crown colony in 1802, and was united under British rule by 1815. As Ceylon, it became independent in 1948; its name was changed to Sri Lanka in 1972. Tensions between the Sinhalese majority and Tamil separatists erupted into war in 1983. Tens of thousands have died in an ethnic conflict that continues to fester. After two decades of fighting, the government and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam formalized a cease-fire in February 2002, with Norway brokering peace negotiations.

The question is not whether you have a caste system, but you have discrimination among people belong to different casts.

The discrimination among different casts within Hindu Tamils are much more greater than the casts among Sinhalese.  The caste differences among Sinhalese have been disappearing during last 50 years.

I believe Sinhalese had cast system based on the profession or duties they had with the King.  English introduced the hierarchy into this system and made people in certain classes feel superior than others.  Today the caste system among Sinhalese are based on who is in what country.  We have a French class, Italian Class, British class, Middle East class.  The difference among them is tied to the conversion rate.  For example, since the British pound is much higher than the dollar, the American class is considered inferior.

Once I visited a Tamil man with bunch of Tamil colleagues in Jaffna for dinner.  The host brought his dining table outside with chairs.  I said that is not necessary.  Then the host said the other Tamils wouldn’t come inside to dine in with him since they belong to a higher class.

That is why when I laugh when LTTE says Sinhalese discriminate Tamils.  They keep their dirty laundry tucked well under.

Oh DrWho1 you are priceless!! Cheesy
You say you don't like caste system, yet you go on to say towards the end of your post that, "Lower caste people tried to force other people to clean their ass."
What do you mean by that? Do you mean that nowadays anyone with money, can get anyone to do anything they want, regardless what caste they belong to? or am I wrong in assuming that?
By the way someone's got to do that.I mean clean the toilets. Otherwise how do you expect the toilets to be clean? Self clean?.
You say many things are 'bullshit'. Isn't that your favourite word? So I'll say with so much sh*t around the place, someone has to clean, otherwise just imagine the stench!  *phew*

In Sri Lanka, there are people who go house to house cleaning other peoples toilets !!!

Thier families and their ancestors have been doing this for generations - maybe since HINDUISM was invented.

Yes, invented "Refer The Hindu Road Show" at   http://www.infolanka.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000101.html

There are no Muslims, Budhists or Christians doing this sort of work, only HINDU Tamils.

This is the Caste System invented by the Hindu Tamils, and it was never enforced on them by anybody else except the Tamils themselves.

On CNN, there was a program that showed Hundreds of Millions (mostly South Indians) involved in this profession of Cleaning other peoples toilets.

These people themselves stated that they have been doing this for GENERATIONS !!

----
As for Britain, they had guilds, where for ex, Carpenters voluntarily joined them in order share secrets of their trade, but it was never imposed on them. This made them better Carpenters, Plumbers, Goldsmiths, etc.

The surname Smith reflects this culture of setting up Guilds. Much like our Computer user groups, where people with interests in certain software (eg, Unix User group) would join and compare notes with others in the group in order to better their knowledge.
